John Terry Loses His Cool After Spurs Fans' Abuse At The Lane

I will not waste your time with a report of the Arsenal game; you all watched it with me, revelling in the ecstasy of victory. Indeed it was a thing of beauty: the melodies of vitriol spewed forth at Judas harmonising with the deafening boo's, Uncle Wenger's leathery old face contorted in disbelieve and disappointment and all set to the beautiful strains of 'We beat the scum 2-1'. Oh and the bitter irony of our two youngsters banging in the goals against an Arsenal defence that enjoyed its vintage years immediately after the defeat of the Armada. 'Arsenal kids'? Only a lingering fantasy in Tony Adams' alcohol ravaged mind. When archaeologists dig up White Hart Lane in thousands of years they will believe we worshipped young Danny Rose as a deity and they wouldn't be far wrong. If the boy never pulls on the shirt again he will still live on forever in Tottenham folklore. In the words of Andy Gray 'Take a bow son, Take.A.Bow'.

I went up to Chelsea expecting little. The injury list looked serious, Chelsea looked strong, 5 wins in 5. We would be tired I thought, just watching the lads since Sunday had me knackered. "Don't expect any favours" went the texts to my scum and Man Utd 'mates'. What actually occurred had me and 30,000 others delirious; two derby wins in two, Top 4 chase back on, the big boys running scared. We didn't just beat Chelsea; we pinned them down, bent them over and gave them the kind of violent and senseless rogering that would have George Michael blushing. It was wonderful, seriously, truly bloody marvellous. Shunted from my usual seat to the South Upper I found myself hugging a balding, sweaty middle aged man like a boy re-united with his biological father (Dad, if you're reading this, please get in touch...sigh...). On 70 minutes they were piling out of the away end, on 80 it was an endless stream leading all the way back to the days when they scrapped for points against West Ham.

Yet one of the most joyous events of the afternoon was the fall and fall of John Terry, beamed out to millions of England fans and all under the watchful eye of Fabio. Once upon a time Terry was a great player, a professional even, but on Saturday he lost every battle; mental, physical and emotional. The result, an early bath as the terraces rang out with adulation for his heir apparent Michael Dawson. Our captain was superb yet again, inspiring confidence amongst all around him. He dealt with the physical presence of Drogba just as easily as the nimble footed, lightweight assaults of the Arsenal. If he doesn't have a place on that plane I will slap Capello personally. Anyway more on him and Ledley (England partnership?) at a later date.

I should perhaps take this opportunity to yet again point out the role the fans have to play in highly charged fixtures like this. Who cares whether Terry actually deserves the abuse he gets? The Premiership is as much of a psychological battle now as it is physical or tactical. In this respect our fanbase are veritable Chess Masters. The Chelsea captain could not escape from the boos, the chants reminding him of his humiliating family life and the accusation he had 'let his country down'. His tackles grew wild and his distribution sloppy, culminating in a confrontation with a fan at half time. His challenges on Defoe and Pav were cynical and his final, fatal lunge at Bale was born of frustration and ineptitude. It was our Welsh prodigy who made the run, who fell to the challenge, yet the target was us. For that gentlemen, I applaud you.

My only slight grumble was at Kaboul. He is a useful player with excellent strength and a surprisingly decent vision and turn of pace. He is however, not a fullback, and spent much of the game being turned inside and out whilst looking lost going forwards. Not your fault lad, you do try hard but we really miss Charlie who made the position his own. As for the rest of the team, exemplary to a man. Thudd and Luka bossing the midfield, BAE looking the player he was at the beginning of the season, Bentley making good runs and tracking back very well. Gomes just showboating with his saves (seriously, watch them again, 'its so easy at the Lane'), Bassong and Dawson rock solid and even Pav leading the line well (albeit it with the finishing powers of an anorexic at a buffet). Defoe still not at peak sharpness but an excellent penalty. Oh yeah and that Welsh kid making the heart shape.Only kidding Gareth, God I heart you too, more than I ever will any woman.

My evening was spent at the Bill Nicholson, smashing down pitchers of booze and screaming out Tottenham chants as yids danced on tables as far as the eye could see. If our seasons ends now it will not all have been in vain. Another memorable year, keep the good stuff coming...

  1. fantastic result and an excellent display!!
    one quick question...
would you stick palacios back into central midfield or keep the Hudd and Modric for our next game?/

  2. Great article mate, well pieced together and had me chuckling :-)

  3. Did we get a bit more respect from the ref. in this match in anticipation of pre-top four status?
Capello left early. Seen enough and Terry off his list? Probably not.
    Good stuff

    Bravo.
I will come to Kaboul's defense and say I think he did alright. In the Arse game he took a yellow and maybe prevented a goal and from there on out he managed to do a good job without risking another card.
You're right, he's no RB, but I'm not as worried about him filling in as I was a month ago.

  5. Ha ha -- loved the George Michael and anorexia gags (no pun intended). Good write up, but a bit harsh on Kaboul who has done a good job at RB: works his socks off, no crazy challenges, keeps on hassling and has put some good crosses in.

  6. Keep Palacios out of it, the geezer is crap and well overated £14m my arse.

  7. Of course Wilson will play. Bale back to LB. Personally I would add Wilson to a 5 man midfield with Bale still on the left side and play Modric just behind Pav.

  8. Well written, good article.
I thought Kaboul improved as the game went on though, he gives his all and will get better in time.
It really does go to show how great our fans can be, It was magical at the Lane Wednesday and Saturday, (and in the Billy Nik before and after, even if the new pole dancer is not as good as the old one) Team and fans were immense and you could barely hear Ar5ena1 or Chelscum fans, we helped drive the team on, only a shame we cant get right behind them for all the games, even against so called lower clubs.
I was embarassed against Portsmouth at Wembley totally outsung not to mention Stoke at home who outsung us with our own song.
Come on You Spurs lets get behind the Lads even when we are playing shite, It may just drive us on and give the boys a lift when they need it.

  11. Hahaha mate were you outside on the picnic tables near that bloke with 'Pride of North London' on his back? That lads always there leading the chants, fuckin quality. So easy at the Lane haha

  13. Also spent the day at the Bill Nik getting fucked up. That place never disappoints. Agree with above bloke about poledancer but your right that outside near the bbq was mental after the game.

12:09 - Don't know what you and the other kids were singing in the Paxton but it wasn't that where I was sitting (Lower south close to shelf). He's let his country down by which I mean us, who cares about his kids? Why would we sing about that? Were you really there...mug

    Good read

  14. A bit over the top this article if you ask me - lets keep our feet on the ground, dont forget we lost to Pompey only a week ago. I think Kaboul was lucky that had Hudd, Dawson plus King and Bassong covering him because he would have been woefully exposed otherwise, that said the boy done good. If we get a result at Man U i.e a win then I will probably be on the tables at Bill Nics too but 58 away games without a win against the top 4 is a nut we need to crack. Until then lets get real

  16. As good as Wilson has been, you just do not mess around with a winning team . Classic Spurs ,as much as I hate to say it...But 'If it aint broke...'.!!!! The same 11 have o start ,they are good omens on each other. plus they've more than earned a starting place imo ,we look to have found a good balance right across the pitch. Either that, or that genie has just found new master.

  17. Ants, you should never change a winning team. Especially if the just took out Assanul and Chelski. We had the Sargent in there and he did an admirable job but now we have the General and he is running the show in the middle. If things get rough at Man U we can always bring a hungry Palacios back in as reinforcement.

  18. It was 11 years, (was at wembley ) since I last experienced what you did on the day,
you sure brought those memories back, I just hope they keep coming back again and again

  19. You boys are getting excited. Why don't you start singing history songs like the scouse scum. In the 80's we used to wet our pants when we beat Liverpool or Manu U as it was the highlight of our season - sound familiar. Then we went on to spend money - sound familiar ( check the figures boys). Then we won trophies - doesn't sound familiar. Funny how you wankers had nothing to say for 17 years and all of a sudden yo might make 4th - congratulations.

  20. The bitterness of a Chelsea fan like music to my ears. Jog on back to the nursing home with the rest of your team.

  22. Good stuff and yes Terry was tackling the crowd for his second yellow. Too hard on Kaboul though who did very well all considered.

That is Ancelotti to add to Wenger and Hiddink that we has beaten in the past year. Great to see Harry the master tactician making fools eat thir words.

If we can get Lennon and Bale on the pitch together with Hudd supplying them we can rip anyone to shreds.

Harry Redknapps Blue + White Army !!

  23. I just sincerely hope that Harry sticks with Bale on the left. Against united it would allow him to maraud yet still provide cover for BAE. I also hope to god that he doesn't start with Crouch. Surely it's plain to see how well we play without him. The ball skips the midfield entirely as the long balls get hoofed up towards him. Modric, Bale and Thudd get lost and our play becomes completely one dimensional. Crouch is an impact player. Bring him on towards the end to either change the game or protect a lead. Please Harry, we don't want another Portsmouth debacle...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would keep the midfield partnership of Tom and Luca. I still want Palacious in the team so I would stick him in the vacant RB position to help keep one eye on the midfield. That's where Man U are very strong.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Palacious is over rated. he isnt that great! works really hard and can run all day but when has that made somebody a good player? it doesnt! just plz watch the guy and see how much he actually looses the ball. he does all that hard work just to pass it straight back to them! we have won 2 games against 2 top 4 teams without him, nuff said!

  26. To the Chelsea fan talking about history. The missing sentence in the trip down memory lane is "being saved from bankruptcy by a dubious Russian billionaire and from that moment ceasing to be a proper football team." That wouldn't sound familiar to Spurs fans as we've got to where we are by operating under the normal rules of business and living well within our means. In other words a "proper" football team - not a collection of trophy bitches prancing about for their pimp.

  27. This was the most magical season. Harry's lot caught the public imagination and by beating City to 4th place, showed that money can't always buy success.

  28. What kind of a blog is this - leaves out the most momentous time in recent Spurs history? I appreciate you've probable been pissed and celebrating ever since (as have I) but if you're halfway serious about this, you could bother with half hour to update it. I'm fed up with decent blogs like DML, AAND and WFRF giving links to people who cant be arsed.
